Holden House
Welcome!
Holden House is named after A. John Holden, Commissioner of Education for the State of Vermont from 1949 to 1965, our new team is dedicated to the same vision of educational excellence long fostered by Dr. Holden.  John Holden began his career as superintendent of schools in Danville, Vermont in the early 1930’s overseeing numerous one room school houses.  He then moved on to teach at Middlebury College, he worked with the Education Development Center in Newton Massachusetts, and he finally ended his career in Environmental Education at Johnson State College.  John Holden was also one of Vermont’s first ski enthusiasts, hiking and skiing Mount Mansfield before the mountain was served by lifts.  In short, A. John Holden embodied the very best of Vermont Education, and of Vermont itself.   The name Holden House was chosen because it represents the same commitment to educational excellence held by the Holden House Teachers: Robin Halnon, and Eric Brunvand.
